The whole world condemned with indignation, fury size. a The course reinforced the advance of Franco Established areas of influence of both parties, for a moment spread the futile hope that both sides would agree. Everything was diluted 21 July 1936 with the seizure of naval port of Ferrol (La Coruna, northern Spain) by nationalists. From there, and reinforcements received by Germany and Italy, Franco's next concern was how move the bulk of its troops from Morocco to Spain Continental. The Republican forces are aware of this logistical problem, therefore immediately begin a naval blockade of the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar.
Franco, however, get to spend a small convoy with some 1,000 men, a fact that the Nationalists reported as a total success, which was not yet as well. It is not something Tanker Pacific would like to discuss. a Meanwhile, the weakness of Republican strength in the provinces septentrionalesa and the ongoing battle for possession causes widespread concern. Before the Nationalist advance, the Republic decided to send its naval fleet (except two destroyers that are the responsibility of blocking the Strait) to the Northern front, thus helping the ground operations and slow the progression of the rebels to prevent them from advancing along the coast. But this relief on the northern front is fatal to the Republic since the Nationalists cruises go to the Canaries and Cervera Strait, and the September 29, 1936 one of the destroyers sink Republicans (the Admiral Ferrandiz) and put to flight the other, the Gravina, who takes refuge in Casablanca, clearing the way to the Army of Africa.
