SATIRICOSAS Manu DORNBIERER Jornada Guerrero ends in May with a demonstration of militarism that unclean by their guns installed Felipe Calder n in Mexico under the pretext of war against the narcos' to please the Americans, but just to satisfy his personal dream of become the Mexican Francisco Franco. All because the Mexicans do not have an instrument such as the referendum or plebiscite to have prevented a timely change from a military to civilian rule. Or because we do not have a board of assessment of the mental health of each and every one of the men and women who aspire to govern. Portrait of Cardinal Granvela, 1549
In its early years only knows that his art education began under Jan van Scorel and his work earlier to be a portrait that is in Stockholm, dating from 1538. forbes Among his early works, although its authenticity has not been tested, are the portrait of a group of Knights of St. John, Utrecht (circa 1541), a picture of two pilgrims in Berlin (1544), and Portrait of a woman unknown gallery in Lille. Working in Brussels and Antwerp.
In 1547, he was received as a member of the Venerable Guilda St. Luke in Antwerp, and shortly after, around 1548, attracted the attention of Cardinal Granvela, Bishop of Arras, who became his patron, and presented to Emperor Charles V. So go to the Spanish crown, so that eventually forced him to travel to Rome, Lisbon, Madrid and London. In the portraits painted at the beginning of the protection afforded by Granvela are two highlights: one's own and one Granvela Fernando Alvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba.
Probably first visited Italy in 1550, where he copied works by Titian, in particular his "Danae." He was sent by Queen Mary of Hungary to Portugal, probably its first visit to that country, and its outstanding results are a portrait of the Infanta Maria and one of Queen Catherine of Portugal meadow, as well as those of King John III and his wife, Catherine, held in Lisbon. Then we return to Madrid, where he painted the portrait of Maximilian of Bohemia. Was back in Rome in 1552.
From Rome, going to Genoa, and back to Madrid. In 1553 he was sent to England, where he painted the portrait of Mary Tudor, perhaps his masterpiece, which was to serve the present betrothed. For this work he received payment for an annuity and the honor of being knighted.
This trip to England are in all likelihood, the portraits of Sir Henry Sydney, and the ambassador Simon Renard. The wife of the Renard not paint until three years later. In this period should be given a miniature of Mary Tudor that is in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch, two portraits of Elizabeth for 21 years, one of which belonged to Dr. Propert times, and even more notable, Roger Ascham, in the collection of Mr. Pierpont Morgan. Was once owned by the Ascham School and later the Marques of Hastings.
It was the portraitist of choice for Prince Philip. I work mainly in Spain between 1550 and 1554.
